In the statement, Givens called on Congress to reject the idea that addressing AI harms is somehow counter to innovation, and to lead the world by passing legislation that creates baseline standards for responsible AI systems that work, are safe, and protect people’s rights. Givens also outlined key elements of trustworthy AI, and several steps that Congress can take towards this goal.
