CDT’s Response to the EU Commission Consultation on the “White Paper on Artificial Intelligence”
CDT’s consultation response to the European Commission Consultation on the “White Paper on Artificial Intelligence – a European Approach to Excellence and Trust” is focused on Section 2, “An Ecosystem of Trust.” The contents of this section involve the intersection of AI and fundamental rights, and this area of policy is central to CDT’s mission and the expertise we bring to bear. In our response, we discuss AI in online content moderation; the importance of nuance in assessing the risks posed by various artificial technologies; the use of remote biometric identification systems in public spaces; the unclear added value of adding voluntary risk labels to AI systems; and our recommendations for moving toward trustworthy AI.
