CDT Urges Biden To Appoint Members to PCLOB, Key Oversight Body

The Center for Democracy and Technology is urging the Biden Administration to appoint defenders of privacy and civil liberties to three vacancies on the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board (PCLOB). We joined 18 other organizations in a letter calling on the President to do this quickly, because PCLOB has only two remaining members and cannot operate without a quorum.

PCLOB, which resulted from recommendations of the 9-11 Commission, plays a key role in providing independent oversight of terrorism-related activities of federal agencies. Its reports not only influence the conduct of law enforcement and intelligence agencies, but also shed light on those activities by prompting declassification of key documents and facts.
