CDT Joins Hundreds of Orgs in Calling for U.S. Senate to Nominate Fifth FCC Commissioner

The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) joined a letter with 269 other organizations calling for the Senate to deliver on a fully staffed Federal Communications Commission to help close the digital divide, ensure everyone has equitable access to the internet, and hold broadband providers to high standards.

The letter calls on Senate leadership to confirm Gigi Sohn as the FCC’s fifth commissioner. Sohn has worked for decades to protect the First Amendment, promote innovation, and champion diversity and equity in technology. The FCC has been curtailed for nearly two years in meeting its obligations to ensure the internet is open, private, safe, and accessible for all. To ensure the FCC can fulfill those goals, the Senate should confirm Sohn as soon as possible.
