CDT Joins Coalition Letter Supporting FTC Privacy Funding in the Build Back Better Act

The Center for Democracy & Technology has joined Consumer Reports and other civil society organizations to support funding proposed in the Build Back Better Act for a new FTC bureau dedicated to privacy and data harms.

The FTC has authority to enforce against unfair and deceptive data practices, but it is constrained by limited staffing and resources. While Congress must ramp up efforts to pass comprehensive federal privacy legislation, the $1 billion appropriation for the FTC will help protect consumers against widespread data abuses.
