David Klotsonis

Policy and Research Officer

David Klotsonis is a Policy and Research Officer at the Centre for Democracy & Technology Europe. He works in the Online Expression and Civic Space programme, where he focuses on research and advocacy on the Digital Services Act and the Regulation on the Targeting and Transparency of Political Advertising.

For the last six years, David has been fascinated by the intersection between politics and technology. Although during his studies he began researching ways to improve governance processes using emerging technologies, he quickly became concerned with how digital innovations can instead pose a threat to democracy and Human Rights.

Following this thread, David’s work has touched on multiple facets of digital policy such as civic tech, transatlantic AI governance and online disinformation. Moving between NGOs, think tanks and most recently the European Commission, where he was as a trainee in the DSA enforcement unit, he is able to draw from his interdisciplinary background to inform his current work on platform regulation, where all the previous topics he has touched on come together.

David holds a MSc in Political Science from Leiden University and a BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Amsterdam University College, where he majored in Political Science and International Relations. He is fluent in Greek, English and French and conversational in Italian and Spanish.
