Your DNT Hearing Witness

Senate Commerce lawmakers are set to get an update tomorrow on Do Not Track standard development, and MT got a peek at who they’ll be hearing from: Mozilla general counsel Harvey Anderson, CDT Consumer Privacy Director Justin Brookman, Digital Advertising Alliance Managing Director Lou Mastria and Mercatus Center senior research fellow Adam Thierer. For those that aren’t day-to-day privacy watchers: Mozilla is key player in the debate, because a future version of its Firefox browser is slated to join Safari in blocking third-party cookies. Brookman is a leading privacy advocate at the W3C talks, and Lou Mastria’s Digital Advertising Alliance runs the Ad Choices program, the industry’s main targeted advertising opt-out program that 1 million users put to use last year. Thierer will talk about how restrictions on data collection could negatively affect the digital economy, he tells MT.
