CDT Comments to the European Commission on Consultation on the Legal Framework for the Fundamental Right to Protection of Personal Data

The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) is pleased to offer this contribution to the Commissionʼs consultation. We hope that these comments, which draw upon CDTʼs research and advocacy, will assist the Commission in addressing the challenges posed by new technologies and business practices and by the reality of global data flows.

In these comments, CDT focuses on five technological trends that pose special challenges to data protection today: cloud computing, behavioral advertising, deep packet inspection, location awareness, and re-identification of seemingly anonymous data.
