Weekly Privacy Tip: ‘Do Not Track’ on IE9

This tip applies to Windows users. Back in December, Microsoft announced that its upcoming Internet Explorer 9 would include Tracking Protection Lists (TPLs). These lists, updated by several third parties, are meant to allow or disallow websites from gathering tracking data through analytics programs. Now that Internet Explorer 9 has a release candidate, you can try out Tracking Protection Lists for yourself. First, grab Internet Explorer 9 and then head to Microsoft’s TPL list to try one on for size. You can’t edit TPLs, as they’re updated by these third parties regularly, but you can make copies and edit them to make your TPL as private as you’d like it to be – no plug-ins required.
