(WASHINGTON) — The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) today announced that tech leader Eric Muhlheim has joined its board of directors. Muhlheim currently serves as Chief Financial Officer for Mozilla Corporation, the global nonprofit-backed tech company behind the Firefox web browser and leading advocate for a better internet, and the non-profit holding entity Mozilla.org.
Through its ownership of Firefox, Mozilla plays a significant role in shaping web standards and advancing people’s agency in how their data is used. The organization is also pioneering privacy-protecting advertising models, both within Firefox and through initiatives like Anonym, while expanding its impact in responsible AI through Mozilla Ventures and Mozilla.AI.
As CFO of the Mozilla Corporation and Mozilla.org, Muhlheim helps guide the financial strategy that underpins these efforts, ensuring that Mozilla continues to demonstrate viable, mission-aligned models for technology that serve the public good. His work closely aligns with CDT’s commitment to strengthening digital rights and fostering democratic values in technology policy.

In his career, Muhlheim has served as Chief Financial Officer of BuzzFeed and OpenX Technologies, provided financial and operations consulting for early-stage startups, and held a variety of leadership roles over more than a decade at The Walt Disney Company. In addition to those roles, Muhlheim served on CDT’s advisory board from 2018 to 2020. His nonprofit board work has included serving as Chairman of the Independent Shakespeare Co. of Los Angeles and the Treasurer of Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills. In addition to his role as an at-large CDT board member, Muhlheim will serve on the Finance Committee, which oversees CDT’s budget, income, expenditures, audits, and overall financial management.
