CDT Research

The CDT Research team produces independent, empirical research and builds bridges between researchers and policymakers to inform policy debates.

CDT’s Research Team conducts rigorous original, independent research to answer policy-relevant questions, working closely with CDT’s policy teams to identify emerging areas in which empirical evidence is needed. CDT is committed to providing rigorous and balanced research with high credibility to policy, academic, and public audiences. Details on the core principles of our research team can be found here.

Our research is also coalition-informed. We work with internal and external partners including advocates, civil society organizations, and the communities most affected by key challenges to ensure our research serves CDT’s greater mission of advancing civil rights and civil liberties in the digital age.

Finally, the Research team creates spaces in which academics can gain experience in policy-relevant work and engage deeply with policy experts. Our CDT Non-Resident Fellows program embeds academic experts with our policy teams, and our internships, externships, working groups, and workshops provide opportunities for scholars and policymakers to engage deeply with one another.
