Is math biased? That seems like a silly question – in math there is right and wrong, so how could it possibly be biased? But humans use math and develop mathematical models and algorithms, and humans can certainly be biased. So, maybe math can be biased.

In her new book, Weapons of Math Destruction, Cathy O’Neil explores how big data is increasing inequality and threatening democracy – that is actually the subtitle for the book.
