(WASHINGTON) — The Center for Democracy & Technology is delighted to announce the appointment of Eric Null (@ericnull) as Director of its Privacy & Data Project. Eric joins CDT following his tenure at Access Now, an international human rights organization where he oversaw technology and digital rights policy in the U.S., particularly around data protection, connectivity, and content moderation.
“Few organizations work on such a broad array of issues at oceanic depths, but I am looking forward to wading into the waters with CDT by joining its impressive privacy team,” Eric says. “Privacy is a vibrant and kinetic area of tech policy and I couldn’t imagine working on it anywhere else.”
Before Access Now, Eric was senior policy counsel focusing on privacy and connectivity at New America’s Open Technology Institute (OTI), where he helped develop the consumer privacy program and advocated for internet openness and affordable and ubiquitous broadband. He also served as senior staff attorney at the Institute for Public Representation, a public interest law firm and legal clinic housed at Georgetown Law, where he worked on a broad range of tech policy issues on behalf of public interest clients.
Eric also taught classes to clinic students on both legal skills and substantive areas of law. He earned an LL.M. from Georgetown Law, a J.D. from Cardozo Law, and a B.A. in political science from the University of Vermont.
