As the 2020 presidential election approaches, policymakers, election officials, and online platforms are grappling with the challenges of securing vital election infrastructure, fighting disinformation and voter suppression, and running a high-stakes process during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Center for Democracy & Technology will host a press briefing on the morning of October 16 to discuss key issues in tackling these challenges, including technical information that should inform election-related coverage in the coming weeks.
The issues covered will include:
- Election security, particularly the measures taken by states to ensure authenticity, integrity, and secrecy of absentee and mail-in ballots;
- How voters can spot and counter misinformation and disinformation online;
- Relevant examples of voter suppression, including targeted efforts to impact marginalized communities
