CDT Joins Broad Coalition In Calling for FISA Reforms
With Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (“FISA 702”) set to expire on June 12, this week CDT joined a broad, bipartisan set of 80 civil society organizations in calling on Congress to include a key set of reforms in an extension of the warrantless surveillance authority.
In particular, the coalition called on Congress to close the backdoor search loophole, close the data broker loophole, fix a problematic expansion to the definition of “electronic communication service providers” that receive FISA 702 orders, and improve the role amici play in FISA Court proceedings.
