Peter Hustinx served as the inaugural European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) for two terms of five years starting in 2004, building the newly created authority and establishing its role at the EU level. Before this, he led the Dutch Data Protection Authority as President starting in 1991 and chaired the Article 29 Data Protection Working Party. His international expertise also includes contributing to the Council of Europe’s landmark data protection convention and chairing key supervisory committees for both Europol and Interpol.
