Coalition Strongly Opposes Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act
The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT), other civil liberties organizations, and security experts sent a clear message to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence about a cybersecurity bill it will soon consider: The Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 (CISA) would undermine privacy and civil liberties. A letter they sent to the Committee highlighted the most glaring problems with the legislation and urged rejection of the bill as written.
CDT security and surveillance experts Greg Nojeim and Jake Laperruque are available to discuss the legislation.
The letter to the Committee states that the revelations about the National Security Agency’s (NSA) conduct require legislation to rein in the NSA rather than grant it more access to Internet users’ communications, as CISA would do. It also warns that the bill would authorize companies to engage in dangerous countermeasures that could do more harm than good for Internet security.
