  • David Klotsonis was a Deputy Director for the Online Expression and Civic Space Programme at the Centre for Democracy & Technology Europe. He focused on research and advocacy on the Digital Services Act and the Regulation on the Targeting and Transparency of Political Advertising.

For the last six years, David has been fascinated by the intersection between politics and technology. Although during his studies he began researching ways to improve governance processes using emerging technologies, he quickly became concerned with how digital innovations can instead pose a threat to democracy and Human Rights.

Following this thread, David’s work has touched on multiple facets of digital policy such as civic tech, transatlantic AI governance and online disinformation. Moving between NGOs, think tanks and the European Commission, he was able to draw from his interdisciplinary background to inform his work on platform regulation, where all the previous topics he had touched on came together.

David holds a MSc in Political Science from Leiden University and a BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Amsterdam University College, where he majored in Political Science and International Relations. He is fluent in Greek, English and French and conversational in Italian and Spanish.
