Many companies have programs through which employees can support nonprofits of their choice, including through payroll deductions or through a matching gift program.  Cy Pres funds are awarded to a charitable organization by the court when there are excessive, unallocated, unclaimed, or undeliverable funds in a judgment or settlement. CDT accepts Cy Pres funding to support our work. In the past, we have benefitted from settlements related to our time-honored efforts in consumer privacy and free expression. If considering CDT for a Cy Pres award, we can provide upon request information about past support, our stewardship practices, as well as opportunities in other core issue areas (such as competition/antitrust, data privacy, and government surveillance). Please contact development@cdt.org regarding recommendations for Cy Pres awards.

Corporate support helps CDT advance civil rights and civil liberties in the digital age. We engage with companies on a variety of issues, helping support responsible approaches to tech policy, practice, and design. We view this engagement as a way to share information and cross silos between industry, academia, and civil society; we also welcome the chance to work directly with internal teams wrestling with hard questions about tech governance and design. Engagement opportunities range from Working Group calls, short- and long-term policy engagements, and events including private dinners, Spring Fling, and Tech Prom.
