Yoder Amendment Big Win For Privacy

Washington – Today, the House Appropriations Committee passed an amendment from Congressman Kevin Yoder that bars federal regulatory agencies, including the IRS and SEC, from accessing Americans’ emails without a warrant.

“The Yoder amendment is a big win for privacy. Today’s vote shows that Members of Congress reject the notion that regulatory agencies like the IRS and SEC get a special exception to the Fourth Amendment’s warrant requirement,” said CDT Senior Counsel Greg Nojeim. “With this amendment, Rep. Yoder has emerged as a leading champion of Americans’ privacy rights against government overreach. He is fighting to protect our fundamental rights in the face of technological change.”
