NBC: Controversial App Lets Drivers Know Where Police Are
CDT President & CEO, Nuala O’Connor, spoke on NBC’s Nightly News regarding Waze, a driving app that’s recently come under fire from law enforcement agencies for revealing police movements in public spaces.
While some are worried that Waze could be used to target police officers, law enforcement agencies have failed to provide a case in which the app aided assaults on agents. Civil liberties advocates like CDT believe that fundamental rights to expression are what’s at stake in this conversation.
“This is a person-to-person conversation that’s being facilitated by a new technology, but this is free speech and this is a fundamental right,” said CDT President & CEO, Nuala O’Connor.
