Internet providers, entertainment groups partner to fight copyright infringement
A coalition of entertainment companies and Internet service providers announced a new effort to combat copyright infringement on Thursday. The companies agreed to create a uniform system for “Copyright Alerts” — warnings sent to Internet subscribers when their accounts are used to illegally download copyrighted material. If the user continues to download illegal content after receiving the alert, the Internet service providers will implement “mitigation measures,” such as temporarily reducing Internet speed or redirecting users to a webpage with information on copyright infringement.
