The Internet blackout ordered by the government of Egypt this month showed again where technology, human rights and corporate responsibility collide. Users, directors, investors and lawmakers are asking what telecommunications providers in Egypt could have done when the government of Hosni Mubarak ordered Internet and mobile services to shut down in its early efforts to cripple the swelling demonstrations.
