America’s CTO Makes First Public Appearance in Silicon Valley
San Francisco–Aneesh Chopra, the Chief Technology Officer of the United States, will give his first public address in Silicon Valley today at a Churchill Club event sponsored by TechNet and the Center for Democracy & Technology.
“The new service will considerably increase public access to millions of books containing much of the world’s written knowledge and ideas and will transform how the public conducts research, interacts with written text and shares information and ideas with others,” Leslie Harris, CDT’s President and CEO. “The public will benefit from approval of the settlement, but Google has to get privacy right.”
“Aneesh Chopra is leading the Obama Administration’s efforts to harness advanced technology to address the nation’s most difficult problems, ranging from health care to education to the environment,” said Jim Dempsey, CDT’s Vice President for Public Policy and head of CDT West. “We are honored to be able to host Mr. Chopra in the heart of Silicon Valley, where many of those technologies could be developed.”
One of the goals of CDT West is to bridge the gap between the technology community and Washington policymakers. Chopra’s address is part of a continuing series of Internet policy events CDT is organizing in the San Francisco Bay Area.
