CDT co-signed comments filed today with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in response to the IRS's inquiry into the application of the federal tax laws to use of the Internet by tax exempt non-profit organizations. The comments, drafted by the Alliance for Justice, urged the IRS not to impose costly recordkeeping or other restrictive rules on Internet communications by non-profits. Rather, the comments pointed out, unique characteristics of the Internet justify an approach that allows non-profits to realize the Internet's potential for education, advocacy and communication. Comments were also filed by Independent Sector and others.
