CDT and International Partners Issue Final Statement on ICANN
The NGO and Academic ICANN Study, an international coalition to explore issues of public representation in ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has issued a final statement summing up its work. NAIS has examined ICANN's structure and activities since November 2000. Among the materials NAIS produced was a substantial analysis of the public role in ICANN, entitled ICANN, Legitimacy, and the Public Voice: Making Global Participation and Representation Work. The NAIS materials, all of which are available online, cover a wide range of issues of importance to ICANN, including the need for strong accountability mechanisms, a limited ICANN mission, and strong procedures for representation and participation of Internet users.
