CDT and Industry Criticize FBI CALEA Implimentation Plan, Call for Congressional Hearings
CDT has joined with the major telecommunications service providers to criticize the FBI's proposed plan for implementation of the digital telephony law (CALEA). The joint review of the FBI's plan is signed by CDT, the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association, the United States Telephone Association, the Personal Communications Industry Association. The FBI's submitted its implementation plan to Congress at the end of March 1997. CDT obtained a copy of the plan and made it available publically here on our web site. The FY 1997 Appropriations Act required the FBI to submit a plan before funds could be spent to reimburse companies for modifying equipment to comply with the law.
