EU Affairs Associate (Brussels)

CDT is offering an EU Affairs Associate position in its European Affairs team, based in Brussels. It provides a unique opportunity for training and on the job experience.

CDT is a leading technology policy organisation that advocates for an open, innovative, and free internet. As a non-profit organisation, we work to preserve the user-controlled nature of the internet and champion freedom of expression. We support laws, corporate policies, and technology tools that protect the privacy of internet users and advocate for stronger legal controls on government surveillance. Based in Washington, D.C., and with a presence in Brussels, CDT works inclusively across sectors and the political spectrum to find tangible solutions to today’s most pressing Internet policy challenges.

The European Union exerts influence over the policies of the global internet far beyond its own borders. CDT works actively with the EU institutions, Member States, civil society, and the technology sector to forge outcomes that respect legal, political, and cultural differences while promoting the core values of an open and inclusive internet.


Specific tasks include the monitoring and analysis of EU regulatory developments within the digital sphere of relevance to the organisation. This includes drafting memo’s, blog posts, reading and analysis of legislative/policy proposals and attending relevant events/meetings. In addition, ad-hoc research, event/project management, general communications work (e.g. social media) are part of the assignment.


  • Excellent written and spoken English is essential; other European languages are an advantage;
  • University degree in European Law, European Studies, International Relations, Economics, or Political Science;
  • Solid understanding of EU decision-making process;
  •  Understanding of and interest in digital/internet technology, industry, and policy;
  • High level of energy and motivation;
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to cooperate with colleagues, both in Brussels and Washington, DC.

Candidates should have permission to work and live in Belgium and the European Union.


This is a paid position for a minimum period of 6 months, with the possibility of renewal under the “Convention d’immersion Professionnelle” framework.
