Tech Talk: EdTech Privacy Practices and Policy Challenges for Driverless Cars
CDT’s Tech Talk is a podcast where we dish on tech and Internet policy, while also explaining what these policies mean to our daily lives. You can find Tech Talk on SoundCloud, iTunes, and Google Play.
In this episode of Tech Talk, we talk Joe Babler, who was part of a team of researchers from Carnegie Mellon University that looked at the privacy practices of ed tech startups. Unquestionably, privacy matters if you have a business that wants to leverage student data, but are edtech startups thinking about privacy, and if they are, how are they communicating their practices to parents, teachers, and students? The research sheds plenty of light on those questions.
After that, we talk about privacy, cybersecurity, and autonomous vehicles with CDT Policy Analyst Joe Jerome. Yes, driverless cars are coming – perhaps sooner than many expect. Are the policies in place for the US to be a leader in autonomous vehicles and should citizens feel secure when they use them, both in terms of their privacy and overall safety?
