Letter: Copyright Reform Must Also Be Fair to EU Researchers and Entrepreneurs
The current debate on the EU copyright reform is unfortunately dominated by rightsholders and Internet giants, even though it will impact all communities, including European researchers and entrepreneurs. For this reason, CDT recently joined in signing an open letter addressed to Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) calling for Article 3 on Text and Data Mining (TDM) to be updated to reflect Europe’s AI ambitions. As it currently stands, Article 3 would prevent many researchers and entrepreneurs from effectively using the tools they need to innovate. On 12 September, MEPs will vote in plenary session and have the opportunity to support an effective TDM policy.
