CDT Responds to MPAA

CDT sent a letter to Senators today as a response to this week’s letter from the MPAA and a number of its allies concerning S. 968, the PROTECT IP Act. While we agree with the bill’s goal of combating the online infringement, some of the specific provisions of S. 968 are far more controversial and would do far more damage than MPAA’s letter suggests.

The bill’s proponents have been working hard to dismiss the bill’s serious threats to free expression, cybersecurity, and innovation. Our letter reminds Senators of these problems, citing many resources from the ever-growing list of parties that have expressed concern over the bill, which include:
