CDT Joins Letter Urging Congress to Pass Comprehensive Federal Privacy Legislation

This week, CDT signed a letter urging Congressional leaders to pass comprehensive privacy legislation this session.

For years, Congress has been debating privacy but has failed to meaningfully move the issue forward. While Congress deliberates, people continue to be harmed (including through illegal discrimination) by the lax data practices of online companies.

The letter says now is the time to move forward with a privacy law. That law, among other things, should protect civil rights and prevent algorithmic bias, should require minimization of data collection, and should regulate data brokers. Only then will a privacy law be successful.
