CDT Comments to NTIA on Privacy, Equity, and Civil Rights

In 2021, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) began a process to engage stakeholders on how commercial data practices impact marginalized communities. Most recently, the NTIA issued a request for comments that inquires about the widespread ramifications of these practices for many communities, which will inform a report by NTIA addressing issues at the intersection of privacy, equity, and civil rights.

CDT filed comments that describe how numerous practices involving the collection, processing, and sharing of data can disproportionately harm marginalized people. Our comments explain how policymakers and stakeholders should think of and address these practices. CDT looks forward to supporting the NTIA’s ongoing work to guide the federal government’s approach to addressing data-driven harms, especially for the communities most deeply affected.
