CDT and Civil Society Groups Warn Trade Talks Could Hurt Fight Against Discriminatory Algorithms

The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) joined a letter urging President Biden to avoid accepting language in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework that could be used to prevent the U.S. Congress or executive agencies from protecting against algorithmic bias.

Such provisions would hinder the administration’s efforts around artificial intelligence and would give industry more ammunition to avoid responsibility for violating people’s civil rights.
