CDT Advocates for Counter-Drone Authorities that Protect Civil Liberties
On May 20th the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing examining counter-drone technologies and legal authorities. While malicious drones can be a genuine threat that should be accounted for, it is important that any counter-drone powers are responsibly tailored to protect civil liberties and protect use of drones for Constitutionally-protected activities, such as by the press and protesters. CDT, in collaboration with the American Civil Liberties Union, Electronic Frontier Foundation, and Electronic Privacy Information Center submitted a joint Statement For The Record to highlight how to design counter-drone authorities in a manner that protects civil liberties.
