“The good hearts and generosity of grandparents are being exploited in a cruel new scam,” the SecurityNewsDaily reports.
The scam involves an unsuspecting grandparent receiving a call from someone falsely claiming to be a grandchild in dire straits and in need of money. The scam artists may even use personal details obtained from Facebook or other sites to lend an extra level of credibility to the call. This is one more reason to safeguard your information on social media sites. The Consumer Federation of America also recommends asking specific questions, which only the alleged person could actually know, when such calls are received.
