Call for Reform of Suspicious Activity Reporting

CDT and other civil society groups are urging reform of the program governing suspicious activity reporting. Twenty-six groups signed onto a letter, spearheaded by the ACLU, calling out a series of reports that found as “suspicious” activity clearly protected by the Constitution, such as taking pictures and “speaking excitedly in a foreign language.” The letter calls for a strengthening of suspicious activity reporting standards and for prohibition on collection, retention and dissemination of political, religious and social views, among other things.
