The UNESCO Office for the Caribbean will host an interactive workshop exploring the impact of AI on gender equality. This workshop will provide a hands-on opportunity to engage with AI technologies and examine potential risks and opportunities, especially in relation to gender-based violence (GBV).
Workshop Goals:
- Raise awareness on the fundamentals of generative AI, its benefits, and potential abuses.
- Examine the ethical implications of AI technologies, including how biases embedded in algorithms can perpetuate gender inequalities.
- Discuss the gendered impacts of AI and how biases in technology can contribute to GBV.
- Equip participants with the knowledge and tools for responsible and ethical AI usage in advocacy and development.
At this event, we will unveil the findings of our survey, “Perception and Awareness of AI Discrimination Among Women and Girls in the Caribbean.” This groundbreaking research explores:
- Perceptions of discrimination by AI algorithms
- Awareness of potential biases within AI affecting Caribbean women and girls

This workshop aligns with the Gender Policy Action Area of the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of AI (2021) and aims to enhance capacity around ethical AI governance for all UNESCO Member States.
