Join CDT’s Maddy Dwyer for a virtual discussion titled, “Off Task: Ed Tech Trends, Effects on Student Privacy and Well Being in the Age of AI.”
Educational data and technology (ed tech) are becoming entrenched in K-12 schools, and are poised to be used in even more ways with the advent of generative AI. This presentation will highlight the Center for Democracy & Technology’s original, nationally representative survey research of teachers, parents, and students, which reveals use trends of student activity monitoring tools, content filtering/blocking software, and generative AI, in addition to the tangible effects these largely AI driven technologies have on students’ privacy and wellbeing. We will offer recommendations for school officials and technology leaders to take into consideration when procuring and implementing edtech tools to ensure they are best serving their students.
Join us to learn:
- How tools like generative AI, content filtering/blocking, and student activity monitoring are impacting students’ learning environments
- How to avoid/combat against potential civil rights violations due to these tools
- How to work with other school officials to ensure responsible, thoughtful procurement of edtech products
