Separating Fact from Fiction: Election Disinformation on Online Platforms
Date: Friday, November 4, 2022
Time: 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM ET
Location: AEI Auditorium
1789 Massachusetts Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20036
Coordinated foreign interference, claims of election fraud, and the doxing of election officials or candidates all have one thing in common: questionable election information on online platforms.
Misinformation and disinformation on social media sparked national controversy following the 2016 and 2020 elections. False information online, malicious or not, can cause harm in the real world. As we approach the midterms this fall, how are social media and tech companies changing their approach to prevent similar issues? To what extent should platforms be held liable for enabling such content? What potential legislative proposals to reform Section 230 might alter that reality?
Join AEI’s Shane Tews for a panel discussion on what effective online content moderation means—and what it doesn’t—in the context of the impending election.
