CDT, Other Groups Register Concerns with Copyright Bill

CDT today joined a range of civil society groups in a letter to the leadership of the Senate Judiciary Committee expressing continued concern with the Protect IP Act (S. 968). The Committee is scheduled to consider the bill on Thursday. There’s not much mystery about what the Committee will do; the members all share the goal of fighting infringement, so they aren’t about to vote against an anti-infringement bill. But we’re hoping that as the process moves forward, legislators will heed the message that the bill’s worthy goal can’t be allowed to override serious questions about some of the means it would employ. CDT spelled out its more detailed reaction to the bill when it was introduced earlier this month.
