Tech Talk: Pai and Mckesson on the Future of Speech Online

2016-04-20 CDT Tech Talk LONG logo

CDT’s Tech Talk is a podcast where we dish on tech and Internet policy, while also explaining what these policies mean to our daily lives. You can find Tech Talk on SoundCloud iTunes, and Google Play.

We have a special episode for you, and it’s one where you won’t have to hear much from me.

Instead we get to hear from FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and Civil Rights Activist DeRay Mckesson. Chairman Pai and DeRay were speakers at a recent CDT event titled, “The Future of Speech Online.” They were both tasked with thinking about the challenges and opportunities that that the internet creates for speakers, and then reflect on what they hoped to see in the future.

You will find their remarks powerful, challenging, and provocative. At one point, DeRay says “When people talk to me about this beautiful free speech, I ask where is it?”

I think it’s out there and I am hopeful that the future internet will bring out more of it.

I hope you enjoy the episode, and you can also watch the videos of these great speakers on CDT’s YouTube channel. A special thanks to our partners on The Future of Speech Online, the Charles Koch Institute and the Newseum Institute.
