CDT’s Tech Talk is a podcast where we dish on tech and Internet policy, while also explaining what these policies mean to our daily lives. You can find Tech Talk on SoundCloud iTunes, and Google Play, as well as Stitcher and TuneIn.

Apple has been a true champion of encryption and strong security. In this episode of Tech Talk, we get to hear not just more about why the company cares about these issues, but how they are integrated into the early stages of product design. Apple’s Manager of User Privacy Erik Neuenschwander joined us on Tech Talk, sharing his insights on the importance of encryption to our digital society and how privacy factors into some of the company’s recently launched products.

Erik was also kind enough to indulge me in a game of true or false to help address some of the more common myths around encryption, including that a “safe” backdoor could be created for law enforcement, that all encrypted data is secure, and that tech companies don’t cooperate with law enforcement.

I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation with Erik and hope you do as well!
