Data Retention Bill Will Harm Privacy With Little Payoff

Earlier today, CDT released a letter expressing its concerns about a data retention mandate in a bill recently introduced in the House of Representatives, H.R. 1981. The bill is scheduled for markup by the full Judiciary Committee on Thursday, July 21. In the letter, CDT expresses deep concerns over any data retention mandate as well as specific concerns about the language of the bill, which we believe is overbroad and would have a detrimental effect on Internet use in this country.
