Free Flow of Information Should Be At Core of Internet Governance - At the close of the Internet Governance Forum in Rio de Janeiro this week, CDT joined other free expression advocates in warning that issues like "security" should not be used as justification for limits on online speech. While the Forum ended without specific action, states that systematically curb freedom of expression on the Internet were among the most vocal in criticizing current Internet governance. That process -- which aims to produce a set of principles guiding company behavior when faced with laws, regulations and policies that interfere with the achievement of human rights -- marks a new phase in efforts that the groups began in 2006. The joint process represents the merging of several concurrent efforts by companies, academics and public interest advocates to address the issues.
